The other day me and my fiancee (irl fiancee) where scanning through Drip red and Yahoo, and she commented that my profile seemed to be the only evil looking one. Which kinda got me thinking. Obviously I have a penchant for the dark yuckyness. I always root for the bad guys, probably bcos they so seldom win in most forms of media, and yet they always get portrayed by the best actors, and those actors seem to enjoy the roles batter than others. Its the ultimate exploration of the taboo. But it would seem that my nearest and dearest prefer a more sublime, personality and impulse driven basis for their character, at least at first glance. So, that having been said, i figured I post this and ask: Whats the inspiration behind your character. Everyone must draw there ideal vampire mythos from somewhere? So where it at?:
Alpha is basically a loose amalgamation of Dracula, Hannibal Lector, Top Dollar, Geoffrey Rush's portrayal of the Marquis Desade (see movie "Quills") and just about every character Jeremy Irons has ever played. If i could base his background on any genre, it would be Clan Tzimice from Vampire the Masquerade, and a respect for the Dracula mythos: The immortal Dark Paladin.
I prefer the Dracula mythos over Ann Rice, Lauren K Hamilton or Brian Lumley, but in all honesty, Alpha's probably more closer to the character of Mordred from the Arthurian legend, particularly from the movie "Merlon"..

Jocelyn is not particularly based on anything.. though I suppose the "vampire rules" she uses come from somewhere. There are so many different forms, different stories, different portrayals of vampires.. I took a bit from lots of things. I quite like Dracula, but mix it in with a bit of the Anne Rice type thing for the more emotional side etc.. Really interesting question though.. And I enjoy the dark side of things, and don't mind seeing evil win.. Hell, One of my favourite characters of from Shakespeare is Iago, the way he manages to manipulate the people around him to serve his cause.. He makes for an interesting study... And now i'm rambling . Andie, holder of Jocelyn's strings.

Well, being the conventional idea of evil isn't hard. Cackle madly and such. But actually being evil is kinda more difficult.
It takes planning, forethought and a lot of patience. Look at Bloodspawn and the early Capadocious. And the first incarnation of EvilBill.

Fair enough... but the actual point wasn't about whose the most Evil. I was more interested in what, if any, influence from media and literature people would attribute to their characters. Vampires are a subject of myth and more recently of pulp fiction. So whose been inspired by what?

I took everything Anne Rice did for vampires and did the exact opposite. I'm more of a John Carpenter fan. Jack Crow: You ever seen a vampire? Father Adam Guiteau: No I haven't. Jack Crow: No... Well first of all, they're not romatic. Its not like they're a bunch of fuckin' fags hoppin' around in rented formal wear and seducing everybody in sight with cheesy Euro-trash accents, all right? Forget whatever you've seen in the movies: they don't turn into bats, crosses don't work. Garlic? You wanna try garlic? You could stand there with garlic around your neck and one of these buggers will bend you fucking over and take a walk up your strada-chocolata WHILE he's suckin' the blood outta your neck, all right? And they don't sleep in coffins lined in taffata. You wanna kill one, you drive a wooden stake right through his fuckin' heart. Sunlight turns 'em into crispy critters.
