Is anyone else having a huge problem taking 'The Sadist' seriously since he's a blatant rip off of Daemon Sadi from Anne Bishop's Black Jewels books?
What ever happened to character originality?
Seriously....

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that.

I'm not alone!
Personally, I love those books to death and to see someone trying to bring that character to life in a city of vampires is just wrong, at least in my opinion. I can understand taking elements from your most loved fiction or non fictional people, but to just take a whole personality and use it? Nah... makes things too odd.

Having not read the books myself I could be wrong... But with a name like 'The Sadist' I'd expect the character to act in a certain way which would be kinda limiting perhaps? So it wouldn't be surprising if they where similar. Now I've known Sadi's human for quite some time now and as far as I'm aware the character is being built on much like anyone elses. But then as I said I've not read the books so I can't compare them. I was aware that the name had come from it though, but a name is just a name after all.

There's another series I haven't read yet.
Now, if Acheron, Wrath, or Edward Cullen make an appearance, then yes, I'll be pissed.

The character from the book: Full Name and Title: Saetan Daemon SaDiablo Nicknames: Bastard, Sadi, the Sadist, Hayll's Whore, the Lover Cruel and unbearably beautiful. Tender and young with the ones he love. He is the fantasy of every woman. Fiercely protective and loyal only to the one woman he lives for, Daemon unbridled sexuality, wild nature, unparalleled strength make him the desire of every woman and a few men that cross his path. He is her strength and her other half. Capable of seducing anything and stirring a deep primal fear with one sleepy, glazed look, Daemon only stands beside Jaenelle. This is a shrine dedicated to the Cruel Sensuality of the Sadist. twilightsdawn.awardspace.com/daemon.phpA name may be just a name, but he's taken several aspects.

My sweet, there are often people that clone their self after a vampire character. Willow, Buffy, LeStat, Spike in a million incarnations... However have you noticed it is the characters with a unique sense of self that have remained for more than a year? Yes, I know My name is associated with a Vampire book, but Mina is not -That- Mina... I have placed her story out there, she technically is older. Not by much but she is. What you will notice is that when a new show or book about Vampire comes out a new surge of names will be seen... "Henry Fitzroy"?

I haven't read the book so I don't know how original the character is.
But he's barely around for two months yet. Give him some time and I'll sure he will develope his own personality. There are quite a few well known vampires named after characters in vampire books already in the city after all: Capadocious, SaDiablo, Jaenelle, King Lestat etc. (I am sure there are a lot more but I don't read that kind of books).

Well Scratch has met The Sadist and he likes him a lot.
*nods*
And really.. in role play.. who cares if a character is 100% original or has aspects of this, that or the other in them? I personally am not a real life vampire so when Scratch has to behave in a certain way, I use the information I have gleaned from various books or movies. And I play him in a more in an, for want of a better word, historical way. For example, he doesn't fly or change into a wolf. There are a lot of different types of vampire that range from humans who are cursed at the point of death, to flying heads with all the entrails and stuff hanging from their bloody necks. Most of us play vampires in human form so where is the originality there?
There are several characters that Scratch or Bambi have come across that I think are two-dimensional or weak. And some have been playing this game for years. But it isn't my place to judge another persons character. I had an argument recently because I said I didn't like someone's chacracter and they took it personally so I won't be voicing an honest opinion about that again.
My problem is that Scratch is very friendly and does not see flaws in anyone until they do something that he considers Bad. So I often end up rp-ing with characters that are weak or unbelievable.. but then again.. that's the nature of role play. If you want to rp to totally original and believable characters you may as well rp to yourself because you cannot control other peoples imagination. The best thing that you, as an experienced role player, can do is to help others develop through coaching.
As Scratch would say, It makes us all into one BIG happy family.
Bambi would say, Feck off will ya.. Wotever ya are it ain't pretty or funny and to be honest.. yer bore me..
I love my characters.. and I know that they are both kinda unique.. makes me a happy Jac ;D
p.s. I use "you" in general, this was not aimed at any one person and should not be taken that way

I believe that was summed up very well there. He's a good character whatever in my opinion. Irk likes him but Irk's a bad judge of character. Truthfully I based some of Irk's personality originally off of a character in a book due to having a fondness for flawed characters. But he's developed since then as all do, gaining flaws of his own etc. I'm sure it'll be the same for The Sadist. I hope I'm not just rambling on now...
